Most of UK Driver Licence Prep is free, and it will stay that way. Every one of the 18 tests has a free diagnostic, a free full mock test in that test's format, and a free 20-question quick practice, all with explanations. Pro is for people who want more: more full-length mocks to sit, drills on the sections they keep getting wrong, and every study note.
This page explains exactly what you get for free, what Pro adds, how billing and access work, and when paying for Pro is not worth it. UK Driver Licence Prep is an independent study aid; we are not affiliated with Transport for London or any council or licensing authority.

What the free tier gives you
The free tier is meant to be genuinely useful, not a teaser. With it you can:
- Find your weak sections with the SERU diagnostic, the Topographical diagnostic or the diagnostic for your council.
- Sit a complete, timed mock in the same format as your test, such as SERU mock 1 (36 questions in 50 minutes) or Liverpool mock 1 (110 questions, 81 to pass).
- Read the free exam guides, such as the SERU exam guide, the taxi SERU guide, the Topographical guide and the council knowledge test guide.
- Print a page of free questions with an answer key for any test, for example the SERU worksheet.
What Pro adds
Pro is one plan that covers all 18 tests on the site:
- Mocks 2 to 10 for every test. Each one is a full-length, timed paper in that test's format, the same papers as in the app. Sitting several different papers is the best way to know you are ready rather than just familiar with one set of questions.
- Practice by section. Drill one section until you get it right every time, such as SERU section 9, safeguarding, Topographical grid references or the Highway Code for Cambridge.
- Every study note. Plain-English notes for every handbook section and every council, with sources and the date we last checked them.
- About 10,000 original questions, each with an explanation of why the right answer is right and why the wrong options are wrong, and the handbook section, Highway Code rule, law or council policy it comes from.
- Section scores after every mock, so you can see when you are consistently above the line in every section, which matters for councils such as Cambridge, Oxford and Sheffield that need 80% in each one.
Pro plans and prices
All prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT due. Every plan includes the same Pro features for all 18 tests.
| Plan | Price | Works out to | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cram week | £6.99 per week | About £1.00 a day | Your test is a few days away and you want every mock now |
| Monthly | £11.99 per month | About £0.39 a day | The usual choice: two to four weeks of steady study before your assessment |
| 3 months | £22.99 per 3 months | About £0.25 a day | The SERU and the Topographical together, or a long wait for a test date |
All three plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime, and cancelling stops the next renewal without cutting off the time you have already paid for.
Key fact: One Pro plan covers all 18 tests. If you are sitting the SERU and the Topographical for your PCO licence, you pay once.
How billing works
Payments are processed by Stripe, a large payment company that handles card payments for businesses around the world. We never see or store your full card number.
Secure checkout
When you choose a plan, you go to Stripe's secure checkout page. You can pay with a credit or debit card, and with Apple Pay or Google Pay where your device and browser support them. Prices are shown in pounds and already include VAT, so the amount you see is the amount you pay.
Receipts
Stripe emails a receipt to the address you used at checkout after each payment, including each renewal. If you are self-employed, keep these for your records.
Renewals
Each plan renews at the end of its period: weekly, monthly or every three months. The renewal is charged to the same card. If you only need Pro for one test, set a reminder to cancel after your assessment, or cancel right after subscribing; you will still keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
How access works
Signing in with a one-time email link
There are no passwords. After you pay, Pro is linked to the email address you used at checkout. To use Pro on another device, or after clearing your browser, go to the sign-in page and enter that same email address. We send you a one-time link. Open it and your access is restored. If a link has expired, ask for a new one.
Use the same email you paid with. If you sign in with a different address, the site will not find your subscription.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your account page, which opens Stripe's customer portal. Cancelling stops future renewals. Your access lasts until the end of the period you have already paid for, even after you cancel, so there is no reason to wait until the last day.
Updating your card or changing plans
The same customer portal, reached from your account, lets you update your card, see past invoices and switch between plans.
If a renewal payment fails
If your card is declined at renewal, Stripe retries the payment and your account page shows a notice asking you to update your card. You keep Pro for a grace period of three days. If the payment still has not gone through after that, Pro stops. You can subscribe again at any time, and your free features never stop working.
Your rights
Pro is digital content that starts as soon as you pay, so the 14-day cancellation period ends once access begins, as the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 allow. We still refund a charge in the cases listed in the FAQ below and in our terms, and nothing affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Pro compared with the cost of a re-sit
Pro is not expensive, but it is still money, so it is fair to compare it with what failing a licensing test costs. These are the published figures we have checked, as of October 2026.
| Test | What a fail costs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| TfL SERU | £30 re-sit, plus another trip to North Greenwich and a new booking | TfL SERU page |
| TfL Topographical | £30 re-sit; TfL's published pass rate is 51% | TfL Topographical page |
| Cambridge | £75 retest; after 3 fails in 12 months, a 6-month wait | Cambridge City Council |
| Sheffield | £87 for each test, not refunded on a fail | Sheffield City Council |
| Milton Keynes | £129 re-sit fee for the driver assessment | Milton Keynes City Council |
| Wolverhampton | £20 test-only resit once, then £50; after 3 fails, a 12-month wait | City of Wolverhampton Council |
The money is only part of it. A failed test can mean another day without earning, a new booking slot weeks away, or a delay to the date your operator can put you on the road. For many drivers the date they are licensed is the date they start earning.
Seen that way, a week of Pro at £6.99 costs less than a single TfL re-sit, and a month costs a fraction of a council retest. That said, Pro does not guarantee a pass. There is no pass guarantee on this site and no "pass or your money back" offer. What Pro gives you is more practice in the real format, and more chances to find your weak spots before the assessment does.
Exam tip: Use the free mock first. If you already score well above the pass mark on mock 1, you may not need Pro at all. If you score near or below it, more full papers and section drills are where Pro earns its price.
Choosing a plan by timeline
The right plan depends mostly on how far away your test is and how many tests you are working on.
- Test in under a week. The Cram week plan gives you every mock and every section drill straight away. A realistic goal is one full mock a day plus section drills on whatever that mock showed you got wrong. Cancel straight after subscribing if you only want the one week; access continues to the end of it.
- Test in two to four weeks. Monthly fits most people. Take the diagnostic, spend the first week or two on your weak sections, then sit a new mock every few days and check that your score is rising in every section.
- Two tests, or a long wait. Three months is the best value per day. It suits a new PCO applicant preparing for the SERU and the Topographical, or anyone waiting weeks for a TfL or council test date.
Whichever plan you choose, the free tier stays available underneath it. If you cancel, you go back to the free diagnostic, mock 1 and quick practice for every test.
Key fact: You never need more than one plan at a time. Pro covers all 18 tests, so switching from SERU study to Topographical study costs nothing extra.
Who should not pay for Pro
We would rather you spend nothing than spend money you do not need to. Do not buy Pro if:
- You already score 85% or more on the free diagnostic and mock 1. You are likely ready. Review the explanations for anything you missed and book your test.
- You want the real test questions. No legitimate practice site has them, including ours. TfL and the councils do not publish their banks. Our questions are original, written from the handbooks, the Highway Code, the law and council policies. If a site claims to sell the actual questions, be careful.
- You only need help with the Topographical route-drawing tasks. Our Topographical practice covers the multiple-choice side and the route rules. Drawing routes on a digital map needs map practice, which the app's map trainer and a good London map provide.
- Your council test is mostly local streets and you have not started learning them. Practice questions help, but nothing replaces driving and walking the area with a map.
- Money is tight. The free tier is enough for many people, especially with the free exam guides, the printable questions and the official handbook or council policy.
How to decide
- Take the free diagnostic for your test.
- Sit the free full mock 1 under the timer.
- If you pass comfortably, stay on the free tier.
- If you are close to the pass mark or below it, choose the plan that fits your timeline: the week plan if your test is days away, monthly for a normal study period, or three months if you are sitting more than one test.
- Cancel from your account as soon as you have passed. Access continues to the end of the paid period.
For details on each test before you decide, see our hubs for the SERU, the Topographical, the PCO licence and council taxi knowledge tests.
Frequently asked questions
+Does Pro cover all 18 tests or just one?
One Pro plan covers every test on the site: the PHV SERU, the taxi SERU, the TfL Topographical and all 15 council knowledge tests. That is useful if you are sitting the SERU and the Topographical together, or moving from one council to another.
+Do the plans renew automatically?
Yes. All three plans renew at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page, and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
+How do I sign in after I pay?
Go to the sign-in page and enter the same email address you used at checkout. We email you a one-time link; open it and your Pro access is restored. There is no password.
+What happens if my card is declined at renewal?
Stripe retries the payment and your account page shows a notice asking you to update your card. You keep access for a short grace period of three days. If the payment still fails after that, Pro stops until you subscribe again.
+Are prices in pounds and do they include VAT?
Yes. All prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT due, so the price you see on this page is the price you pay at checkout.
+Do you offer a pass guarantee?
No. Practice tests help you prepare, but your result depends on your study and on the assessment itself. We prefer to be honest about that rather than promise something we cannot control.
+Can I get a refund?
If you were charged twice, charged after cancelling, renewed by accident and have not used Pro since, or could not use Pro because of a fault we could not fix, email us within 14 days of the charge and we refund it. The full rules are in our terms.
+Is the web subscription the same as the app subscription?
Not yet. The app is sold through the App Store and Google Play, and the website through Stripe, so they are separate purchases for now. The questions and notes are the same on both.
